Onshape Part 2: Introduction to ONSHAPE

Introducing you to FREE CAD app you can use to create 3D model on your smartphone or any computer!

You should already be signed up with your own Onshape account from Part 1 Lesson.


There are 3 Sections:

1) Start new 3D Model from the dashboard layout

2) NEW 3D Model Window

3) First Onshape Assignment

 

Start new 3D Model from the dashboard layout:


The new dashboard will probably be mostly blank with no files. Click "CREATE" on upper left corner for drop list. Then select "DOCUMENT" to start a new 3D Model File. There will be a pop-up window for you to type in your new 3D Model file name.

 

NEW 3D Model Part Window:

A new 3D Modeling Part Window should pop out and look like this...


Take your time and study the layout with all features. I encourage you to play around some. Each label will drop down once your icon highlights on each symbol.

Here are three most useful tools (sketch, extrude, and revolve) to get you started with playing around...

 

FIRST ONSHAPE ASSIGNMENT:


Your first Onshape assignment is to create a 5inx5inx5in Square block and share the file with me through Onshape. The model should look like this...


Here is instruction on how to submit your assignment by sharing the file with me through Onshape Teams.

1) Go to your dashboard and you should see your model file that you created

2) Right click ON the file for drop list

3) Select "SHARE"

4) A Share window should pop - up

5) Select "TEAM" Tab

6) Start typing in "Tech..."

7) an assistant droplist should automatically show up with list of teams to select from.

8) Select "Technology Engineering & Design" from droplist.

9) Click on "SHARE"


NOTE: Be sure you have Technology Engineering & Design under Teams on left side of your dashboard.
