THIS LESSON ENCLOSES 4 SECTIONS:

  • DEPENDENT VS INDEPENDENT SUSPENSION SYSTEM

  • DEPENDENT SUSPENSION SYSTEM

  • INDEPENDENT SUSPENSION SYSTEM

  • ANTI-SWAY BARS

DEPENDENT VS INDEPENDENT SUSPENSION SYSTEM:

Older vehicles started off with dependent suspension system. Today, almost all cars and light pick-up trucks are using independent suspension system for better quality ride and safety. Dependent suspension system are still used in heavy duty pick-up trucks and semi trucks because dependent suspension system have greater maximum load capacity for loading or towing.

INDEPENDENT SUSPENSION SYSTEM:

There are multiple different independent suspension systems!

Listed here are 4 most well known independent suspension systems...

ree

MacPherson Strut - Most popular for today's Front Wheel Drive cars where the suspension can be turned along with steering and have reserved places for drive lines. It is identified with ONE control arm at bottom.

ANTI-SWAY BARS:

Anti-sway (Anti-Roll) bars are used in independent suspension system to reduce the sway issues.
